About the Author

I am Michael Clarkson. My day job I’m a Senior Cloud Solutions Architect. When I’m off the clock I am a writer, amateur historian, cosplayer, and giant nerd. I’m the Chief of Security for our local Pride organization in Douglas County, CO. I volunteer with our county Democratic Party. I served in the Army just long enough to hurt myself. I’m the son of a 70 (think Catholic archbishop and you’re close) in the cult known as The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, or the Mormons as they are commonly known.

This Substack blog (and potentially podcast at some point) will be where I write about politics, history, tech, and positive masculinity. I’ve spent much of my adult life deconstructing my cult upbringing. I grew up so conservative I’m betting the Heritage Foundation would have told young Michael to ease up a bit. Now I have a purple mohawk and beard, protect our local LGBTQIA+ community, campaign for Democratic candidates, and work to make the world a better place for everyone.

I started this Substack on Inauguration Day, January 20, 2025. The day that begins the second term of convicted felon and adjudicated rapist, Donald Trump. Nothing like the longest standing democracy on Earth falling to fascism to motivate a person…

I named my Substack for the Norse realm of the dead, Helheim. It is where Hell gets its name in English though it is closer to Limbo. Fitting considering the state in which we Americans find ourselves.

Ride with me into Helheim. Here be the fallen dead, Democracy and Freedom. Let’s drag them back to the Midgard together.
